In today’s society we can never be too careful, with opportunistic theft and snatch and grab on the increase we have to protect ourselves and our possessions, whether it be with personal alarms or CCTV. Violent UK Females On The Increase

Violent attacks from UK females is on the increase. Figures have jumped to 13% for 2007/08 compared to 11% of the previous year which works out at 281,320 assaults, robberies and muggings carried out by violent women and girls. Half of all violent attacks involve alcohol fuelling fears that binge-drinking among young women is out-of-control.

Britain CCTV Capital of the World

cctv-nestWhile Britain has the largest numbers of CCTV cameras in the World, 1 camera to every 12 people, do they really stop crime from happening? A recent study carried out, states that in some cities the crime rate has actually risen. Outside the criminal justice system, CCTV is the most heavily funded crime prevention system where spending is around £500 million of the tax payers money.

Act of Sabotage!!

This week in Scotland saw the third anniversary of the 3,500 cyclist Etape Caledonia race which runs through Perthshire in aid of the MacMillan Cancer Support. This 81 mile race is now one of the biggest in Britain, but despite this, it was subjected to an audacious act of sabotage. The race which raises money for a good cause, is unpopular with a minority of the locals as the main road is closed for a few hours.

Caravan and Mobile Homes New Target for Thieves

Crime Reduction Officer, PC Tim Cuthbert, warned today of the rising trend in thieves to target against caravan and holiday parks. Speaking about the latest spate of caravan and mobile home breakin-ins, PC Cuthbert said “Criminals often target these at this time of year, as they know that people can be carrying out maintenance or preparing for their summer holidays.”

Counterfeit Detection Still An Issue

Like most businesses there nothing better than the sound of money going into your till, standing all day at your work premises, then at night going to put your hard earned cash into the bank only to be told that some of your money is illegal. Infuriating, don’t you think? Counterfeit money is big business and it is not confined to just UK shores this is a World wide problem.

Shop Theft Figures on the Increase

shopliftingMany people feel that theft from a shop or factory is ok, well not ok but not as serious as stealing from someones house. Shop theft is big business, often shops and businesses are seen as easy targets as merchandise is often unattended and placed right to the front door. The Independent Retail News has reported an increase in shoplifting in the last half of last year this has been put down to the credit crunch (source). Summer Car Crime Safeguards

Motor theft has the potential to spiral in the Summer months with the light nights which encourages more youths to camp out and the influx of tourists. Although it has dropped significantly in the last few years. Car crime accounts for about 13% of all crime in England and Wales (Home office). Most car crime is opportunistic so there are several things that can be done to prevent theft.

Staying Safe while Jogging

If you are a woman living in the Helensburgh and Lomond area of Scotland there is some good news for you today, the Crime Prevention Panel are giving away 250 personal alarms. Although this area is considered very safe, its always nice to have that extra reassurance. With the warmer weather and light nights now here, more and more females are taking to ‘power walking’ and jogging.
