night-time-burglarA disturbing trend appears to be the fore, where victims have been robbed in their own house while asleep in their beds. This alarming rise of night time burglars, has seen the Police once more issue statements regarding people undertaking simple home security measures. Inspector Ewan Strachan, of the Elgin Police Force, said, “Preventing such crime happening in the first place is what is important … it is imperative that householders secure all windows and doors, including patio doors, before going out for the day/evening or before retiring to bed. These simple security measures will act as an effective deterrent to the would-be thief.”

Sneak-in theives, mostly target objects which are simple to carry and hold no weight, such as: mobile phones, laptops, dvd players but also money and valuable jewellery. However, documents and letters could also be on their list as thieves find value in household bills where they can easily find the householders information and use it to further counterfeit credit card scams etc…

Securing your home is not something you should take lightly, home security doesn’t have to cost the earth. Home owners should be vigilant in checking all doors and windows are securely locked before turning in for the night. A routine which at most will only take a few minutes to complete. If you have outdoor security lights then test them reguarly to see if they work. Small, simple yet important steps to keeping you and your family safe at night time in your own home.
