TV illusion at night. Fake TV is perfect. The "Fake TV" arrived very promptly and is fantastic. From outside at night it is hard to believe the real TV is not on. We would recommend it very highly. Mr C

I was suprised to see just how lifelike this was when I set it up, which was easy to do. My neighbour opposite told me the next morning that I had left the television on all night!JR Alfreton.

FakeTV - the small lamp that glows like a Television Description
The greatest risk of being burgled is when the house is empty and more particularly, after dark. Although some burglaries occur during the day, most burglars operate under the cover of darkness and will not often break into an occupied house. So when a prowler sees that flickering glow that means someone is home watching TV, he knows to move on to an easier target. When you are away, Fake TV says "we're at home" far more than a lamp on a timer ever could.
Buy a Fake TV and make your home an unappealing choice for thieves.
Our imitation television glow lamp simply recreates the light of a real television. The mini computer controlled super-bright LEDs fill a room with light in hundreds of possible shades of color and even simulate scene changes, with fadeouts and light swells, as well as on-screen movements. From the outside of the house, it looks just like someone is home watching TV or on a computer. Most televisions do not work with timers, because they turn on with a push button therefore the timer cannot operate it and burglars know this, making the Fake TV very effective. If they see light from a TV, they know that someone mut be watching it! Makes sense doesn't it?
There is also a case for giving a Fake TV to perhaps an elderly relative or other vulnerable person who live alone so that they can have it working in one room whilst they are at home in another. How many times do you read about vulnerable elderly people being burgled while they are at home because the thief knows they are alone? By fitting Fake TV into another room, it then makes it look like someone else is also in the house and they become much less of a target.
Using the Fake TV could not be easier, simply place it on a table in a room so that you can see the light from the Fake TV from outside, (but you cannot see the unit itself) then plug into the wall power socket using the included adapter.
Programme the built in light sensor to one of the following:
1. OFF
2. ON at Dusk + 4 hours (this will turn on after dark and then off after 4 hours) for when it gets dark later during the summer months.
3. ON at Dusk + 7 hours (this will turn on after dark and then off after 7 hours) for when it gets dark earlier during the winter.
4. Permanent ON which will leave the unit running contantly or alternatively could also be controlled with a separately bought electronic Timer (see Accessories below).
TIPS ON POSITIONING:
It is always best to locate the Fake TV in an UPSTAIRS room, this way there is absolutely no chance of a prowler seeing the lamp. If you have lightweight curtains or thin blinds then you should close either one of them and point the lamp towards the window. If you have heavy curtains or do not have blinds, then leave them open but place the Simulated FakeTV in the furthest corner from the window and facing into the corner, in this way it will not appear too bright from the outside, however trial and error is required to obtain the best results.
Both of these options give optimum light effects when seen from the outside. Remember, check your handywork during the evening until satisfied with the result, spending a little time doing this will improve the performance when you are away, and you need only do it when you first set it up.
To develop the Fake TV, the inventor took data using real televisions of different types and makes. They characterised TV programs, analysing the light output for intensity and colour variation and generated a lot of computer files of television data. They then came up with mathematical formulas that behaved just the same way and programmed these into FakeTV's computer, and ran the same tests. We tested these in the field as well, and verified that our test subjects simply could not tell the difference between Fake TV and the real thing. They didn't stop with just a great imitation of TV light either, because the light sensor works so well that in most applications all you need to do is plug it in, set the timer switch appropriately, and let it fool thieves!
