Crime Figures Rise in Economic Downturn

Filed under: Crime News — admin @ 1:54 pm

It’s not exactly rocket science to figure out that the economic downturn is forcing more people to consider criminal activity as a way to make ends meet. Latest police figures are showing dramatic increases in robbery and burglary within the UK. The most affected area was Greater Manchester, where a stark 21% increase in reported incidents has occured. These are real life facts of what recession brings upon a country.

car-theftRobbery and Burgulary are the most common of the reported incidents. Businesses and home owners should be made aware that the credit crunch will drive opportunistic thieves to take more risks. Protecting your business or home must be a priority. Installing modern CCTV systems or home security solutions is a pro-active approach in keeping your possesions safe.

Politicians are playing the blame game with Shadow Home Secretary, Dominic Grieve, saying: ‘These figures are alarming. We already know, from leaked government memos between the Home Office and the Prime Minister, that ministers feared a rise in acquisitive crime due to Gordon Brown’s recession. These figures appear to be bearing this out.” No matter whom you feel is to blame, it is best not to take chances with your valuables. Protect your possessions the best you can, make it difficult for thieves by considering property marking your valuables and report any incident of strange activity in your neighbourhood, to the Police .
